Tayrona National Park - By Maria

On New Years Eve, we went on a motorcycle up a mountain, and it was my first time ever going on a motorcycle. It was fun.

After we took the motorcycles up, we had to hike back down the other side for two and a half hours. It was steep and rocky.

We saw lots of big spiders.

When we arrived at the beach, we saw a lot of crabs and big toads. We found another kid from Spain and we played with him a lot. He showed us how to catch the crabs. He knew four languages and he was only ten!

Look at this HUGE toad and all the tadpoles.

This is where we slept the first night. I never slept in a hammock before and it was comfortable but I did wake up a lot.

This was my favorite part. We played cards with two other families. They were both from Europe. We taught them some games, but we taught them the games in Spanish because it was the only language we all had in common, even though it wasn't anyone's native language. It was very fun to do that. It was cool to speak different languages with other families.

On New Years Eve, when it's Midnight, they have a doll and they fill the doll with firecrackers and at 12:00 am, they burn the doll. The doll is kind of creepy and when we saw it we thought it was a person from far away.

Our second night, we got a cabin for us instead of hammocks. We had a very nice cabin with bug nets. There were bats in our cabin.

When we were done, we rode horses and mules back up the mountain and down the mountain. It was very uncomfortable because my saddle was too big for me and it was bouncing for two hours.

It was very pretty at Tayrona National Park. We might go back to Tayrona again.

  4. Hi Maria,
Thank you for the update! Did you touch the tadpoles? Did you hold the huge spiders? How many inches were the spiders? Did the crabs try to pinch you? Are there volcanoes in the parts of Columbia that you are in? Were the bats scary or cool? Can you show us pictures of what the inside of the cabin looked like? We will see you on Tuesday! Travel safe. Mrs. D's Class Room 9

    1. Yes, I touched the tadpoles. No, I did NOT hold the huge spiders or touch them. They're too scary. The big spiders were four or five inches wide. The crabs didn't try to pinch me. There are no volcanoes where we are at. The bats were kind of scary and kind of cool, but when they're in your cabin it is kind of scary. We didn't take pictures of the inside of the cabin, but it was way better than the hammocks. There was one big bed, and two sets of bunk beds. There was a table and chairs and a deck with more chairs. And underneath, there were more hammocks.
